The first time I had the pleasure of speaking with Derick Thomas was about a year and a half ago when I was looking to cowrite with someone for a song called "Beholding the King" for our upcoming Album. This was the first Skype writing session I had tried and I was truthful a little nervous. Within about a millisecond of starting I was at ease as this joyous, genuine, infectious smile engulfed the screen. Derick Thomas is the real deal y'all (as we say down here in KY. ) Beyond being an incredibly accomplished songwriter, Derick is as kind and beautiful a man as you will ever meet. Talent drips from him and he see angles in songwriting that most don't. To say that I have written with him is one of the highlights of nearly two decades of writing. The writing session we had was a beautifully orchestrated whirlwind as Idea popped and flowed from the both of us and in the end, "Beholding the King" is easily one of my favorite lyrics I have ever been a part of receiving. A Thousand Hills Music is pleased to introduce one of our collaborators and new artists, Chris Banks. God connected Chris and I at the beginning of 2014 and we instantly hit it off. I can say now that Chris has in quick order become one of my closest and truest friends and that we are definitely cut from the same cloth. We are both Ragamuffins through and through. Chris has inspired me as a Christian, song receiver, and as a man, and I am thankful that God placed this brother in my path. Read More
About seven years ago, we had a music festival at the church my family attended in which we invited Christian bands and artists from around the area to attend and showcase what God had given them. As we were planning the event, the planning team and I kept hearing the same name mentioned that we had to have come. "CrossWalk." I had never heard or seen them and had to check them out before we invited them to our event and found out when their next gig was and made a trip to see them. Needless to say it was not a trip made in vain. I got there a little late and they had just begun their set as I walked in. The stage was surrounded by a hundred plus screaming teenagers and adults most all who were proudly wearing their CrossWalk t shirts. As the band played this, thunderous yet soulful voice emerged ripping a Third Day like rendition of "This Little Light of Mine" and I instantly understood why their name kept coming up in our discussions. CrossWalk is a true Rock band with a big heart for God and have a mission for sharing the gospel through the music God gives them. Read More
To say Tom Frye is a friend is an understatement. To say Tom Frye is a fellow Ragamuffin and slave to the gospel is as well. To say that Tom is a man after God's heart, well that is the greatest understatement of them all. I met Tom nearly a decade ago at a songwriting convention in Nashville and we hit it off immediately. After several months it was clear that he and I would be lifelong friends. Tom shares many of the same artistic influences I do and we have talked for hours on end about our greatest influence being Rich Mullins. Tom has a style that is truly unique and is branching his writing now from the singer / songwriter genre to corporate praise and worship. What encourages me the most about Tom is that he has for years included his children Kaylyn, Maggie, and Jonathan in his writing, recordings, and in his tours. Family bands are hard to come by these days but Tom's family is one to take notice of. Read More
I am incredibly excited this week to feature our new friend Stephen McWhirter and his song "God that Saves." Stephen is from Louisville and is making big waves both here and nationally with his new song as you will see in the below 700 club feature. I was recently introduced to Stephen by Justin Mosteller of the band Carrollton and he told me that Stephen is a guy that we definitely want to connect with as his ministry is really taking off and most importantly for his heart for the Lord and the testimony of his life as it shows in what God is entrusting to him. Stephen is a Christian Worship Leader / singer-songwriter for Iron Bell Music and will be a part of Iron Bell Music's National real ease in January 2015 titled "Adoring God." Read More
I am incredibly pleased to introduce in this week's spotlight my good friend, co receiver, and Worship Pastor, Aaron Lee and his Debut song "No Other God's." Before I begin to go into detail, I have to say that Aaron was there for me at the very worst part of the greatest trial of my life and for that I am eternally grateful to him and for his friendship. Arron is the real deal I can assure! His love for Christ exudes from him and his passion for worship and leading and ushering in the presence of God and the Holy Spirit is evident as a member of Okolona Christian Church here in Louisville, KY, and to those who listen to the music God has entrusted to him. Aaron's music is reflective of his personality in that it is consumed with a passion for the body of Christ to come together in worship and praise of our God and King. Read More
